What Makes Active Recovery?
Workout rehabilitation and workout recovery has to do with more than simply getting a decent night of sleep after a workout or having a post-workout drink thinking this will cover you when it comes to giving your body the time and space it needs to successfully recover from a workout or even an injury. The truth is, your recovery plan should be nearly as active as your workout plan.
Below, Family Chiropractic and Natural Healing Center goes over a few hallmarks of an active recovery plan.
First, stretching is extremely important. Take 30-45 minutes to stretch after an hour-long workout. If you skip a session, make up for it! Yoga is your friend. Building an at-home yoga practice will go a long way in improving your body’s functionality and range of motion, not to mention help you bounce back from workouts faster.
At-home tools like acupressure mats/pillows and foam rollers will also ensure your recovery protocol is active. Take 20-30 minutes after each workout to relieve body tension and depressurize. These items will also help promote a better night of sleep.
Chiropractic treatment is also a great active recovery tool. Contact Family Chiropractic and Natural Healing Center today to learn about how our treatments go hand in hand with an active lifestyle and an active recovery plan.
Tips for an Active Memorial Day While in Quarantine
Even though it’s Memorial Day most of us will be… drum roll… staying at home! We’re all doing our part to limit the spread of COVID-19 — a very serious illness.
Although restrictions are still in place (albeit slightly less severe in many places), there are ways to get out and stretch your legs.
Below, Family Chiropractic and Natural Healing Center goes over a few ways to stay active this holiday weekend and avoid couch surfing.
First, make sure you get some exercise. Use kettlebells at home for a 360-degree workout. Kettlebells are awesome tools to work your legs and core muscle group. Push-ups and pull-ups are also your friends. Try and work in a few body squats as well — you don’t want to skip leg day.
Remember to stretch! Yoga is a great anti-stress and anti-tension tool and a practice that is very worthwhile to build. Every time you put your body through the strain of exercise, it’s important to decompress with a good stretch session afterward.
We don’t think of eating as an incredibly active thing, but preparing healthy meals tends to be more energy-focused than, say, ordering takeout. Make some of your favorite early Summer meals that have a healthy punch to them. Incorporate plenty of greens while you’re at it. Good, clean eating will make for a sparkly Memorial Day weekend.
Contact Family Chiropractic and Natural Healing Center when you’re ready to get back to your chiropractic treatment protocol. We go along great with a healthy and active lifestyle. We also help patients deal with health conditions and pain and discomfort the drug-free way.
Quarantine Goalsetting
If you’ve been going through this period of quarantine as many Americans in this great country have, you’ve likely watched your 2020 goals fall by the wayside. However, now is the time to make some key revisions to your plan that will set you up to achieve as much as possible despite limitations.
Below, Family Chiropractic and Natural Healing Center goes over a few ways to tweak your 2020 goals so you can still get things done!
Focus on Nutrition
If you can come out of this time of quarantine with healthier eating habits as opposed to developing and cultivating unhealthy eating habits, you’ll be ahead of the game in so many ways. Eat clean, whole foods and plenty of veggies. Incorporate ginger, turmeric, elderberry juice, oranges, and red bell peppers into your diet for added immunity boosts that will help you fight off sickness during this time.
Stay Fit
We saw a funny meme the other day that said people are either coming out of this quarantine a chunk, a drunk, or a hunk. What you decide to do with this time is up to you. At home, there is still a lot we can do to stay fit. Last time we checked, any tickets people are getting for going out on a run wouldn’t hold up in court, so get your miles in early to limit exposure and leave the trails open for others. Get more disciplined with your exercise routine to combat stress and lethargy.

Where is Your Wellness Protocol?
As we reach the half-way point through May and many states are continuing to enforce quarantine conditions, it’s important to start taking our own health back. Government orders and suggestions have zero to do with how to build a healthy immune system or what you can do to set your body up for success in the event that you are exposed to COVID-19. All we’re hearing about is shelter in place, stay home, wear masks, use hand sanitizer, and stock up on toilet paper. It’s pretty bewildering, honestly.
As a result, Family Chiropractic and Natural Healing Center would like to go over a few measures you can take to start rebuilding your immune system so that when society (and our government) decides it’s time to stop forcing people out of work and to stay at home, you’re not out in the cold when it comes to the natural defenses that help you ward off a viral infection.
First, get outside more often. You don’t need to wear a mask outside, especially if you’re in an area that is densely populated. You really only need to wear a mask if you’re sick and have to go out for some odd reason, or if you’re inside a public building. Getting outside and getting fresh air is pivotal to your immune system. Vitamin D is your friend and we get some of that from the sun.
Interacting with people now is likely a safe idea. Make sure you don’t come into contact with those who are susceptible to COVID-19 or have been exposed to COVID-19 in any way. Meeting with a younger friend who is in good health and hasn’t exhibited any of the symptoms of Coronavirus and going for an outdoor walk or hike is probably a good idea. It’s probably okay to give some safe hugs to a safe person — especially those of us who live on our own and have had zero human contact for two months straight.
Remember that isolation is hazardous to our health. As local governments start to overstep their boundaries, it’s important to focus on taking our own health back. Contact Family Chiropractic and Natural Healing Center to learn about how our treatments can help give your immune system an added boost during this time.
Getting Back to Chiropactic Treatment
If you’re one of the millions of Americans who have set aside their own health protocols in order to make a big sacrifice for the greater good during the COVID-19 pandemic, as we enter the third month of governmental restrictions nationwide, it’s a good idea to start thinking about getting back to our own wellness protocols, including chiropractic treatment.
If you’ve been “doing without” when it comes to your chiropractic treatment, you may have noticed back pain, head and neck pain, lack of restful sleep, and a host of additional symptoms that come along with spinal misalignment.
Patients with arthritis who seek chiropractic treatment as a companion to their normal health protocol might also consider scheduling an appointment for a chiropractic adjustment to quell their pain and discomfort and get on the right track with their pain management plan.
We keep our offices clean, safe, and follow all of the health guidelines set out for our profession. Family Chiropractic and Natural Healing Center would like to remind patients who are sick or susceptible to being impacted by COVID-19 to stay home while this thing still gets under control.
We’re here to provide our treatments in a safe environment, helping our patients take their health back amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Stay safe and stay healthy out there!
Getting Restful Sleep with Noisy Neighbors
As many of us are forced to hunker down and stay at home, even while shelter in place restrictions have become slightly more relaxed, the undeniable truth is that we’re all forced to spend more time at home. For those of us who share walls with neighbors, this might mean having to deal with more excessive amounts of noise.
Many people simply aren’t aware of the noise pollution they generate, and it’s a sensitive subject — because often people can become defensive or even belligerent when we hold them accountable for being noisy and (dare we say it) even a little bit inconsiderate.
It’s still up to us to get the right amount of sleep at night, even if our neighbors make it more challenging at times. Below, Family Chiropractic and Natural Healing Center goes over a few ways to block out the noise and get your proper Zs.
First, invest in a noisemaker. There are many hi-tech brands on the market that will help you create a sound bath in your bedroom that will block out invasive noise from surrounding houses or apartments.
Closing all of your windows is also a good idea to block out noise, although you’ll be sacrificing fresh airflow that many prefer in the night time.
Exercising each day and making sure that you limit your caffeine intake (and cut caffeine altogether after 3 pm) will also ensure that your body and brain are both ready for restful sleep when the time comes.
If the noise persists, try to politely communicate with your neighbors and let them know that you’ve been inconvenienced. You also have the option of getting your landlord or property management company involved in the matter. If invasive noise persists, you do have legal rights that you can pursue — if you choose to do so.
Family Chiropractic and Natural Healing Center provides chiropractic treatments that have been shown to help patients get more restful sleep on a consistent basis. Contact us today to learn more about who we are and what we do.
How to Limit Isolation Damage
As we go into our second month of self-quarantine, Family Chiropractic and Natural Healing Center would like to remind our patients and readers that it’s still important to check in with yourself on a daily basis to ensure that you’re getting the sustenance you need to stay healthy and well.
The medical community has expressed for a long time the effects isolation has on human beings. Staying indoors and away from the outside world is also damaging to your health and your immune system. In the end, even though we are making huge sacrifices while looking out for those more susceptible to COVID-19, we have a lot more to give when we ourselves are feeling at our best. We can still do a lot to obtain human contact and get back to nature during this time.
First, if you have people you’ve been having contact with (like, say, household members or certain low-risk family members), maintain your contact. We all need a hug. Our immune systems also need to change those good biomes that help us log and defend against infection and viruses.
Second, get outside. And whether you want to wear a mask or not, that’s up to you. One thing we can say is that it’s probably not a good idea to be breathing in your own exhaust for long periods of time. You breathe certain things out for a reason, right? If you maintain 6 feet of distance outside, there’s is no law or regulation saying that you can’t. The only time you really need to be staunch about wearing a mask outside and away from high-risk indoor areas (like the grocery store and convenience store, for instance) is if you’re susceptible to the virus, in which cases you should be rigidly quarantining anyway.
Make sure that you check-in with your communities, whether it’s a yoga or martial arts group, or whatever group of people who normally hold you accountable for showing up. Show up to your obligations virtually, you’ll still feel some amount of connection that way.
Contact Family Chiropractic and Natural Healing Center to learn about how our treatments are helping our patients stay healthy and well, even during these uncertain times. Our office follows all current health regulations in an effort to keep our community safe.
