Atherogenic Inhibition: A Chiropractic Approach to Healing

Atherogenic muscle inhibition is common after a joint injury

As you move through the rehabilitation process after a joint injury, it is common to notice dysfunction in the muscles which surround the joint capsule. While there is no actual damage to these muscles, they are often unable to contract fully. This is a purposeful reaction by the body, which aims to prevent further damage to the joint by limiting the degree of movement and muscular contraction that can occur surrounding the injury. However, it is problematic because it further limits the range of motion, which is a crucial factor in the successful rehabilitation of any joint injury.

Addressing atherogenic muscle inhibition

This is a neuromuscular condition in which the joint provides the brain with information by way of sensory nerves and the spinal cord. As the inputs from the joint are changed because of injury, the change in the activity of signaling between joint and brain causes inhibition in the muscles. Therefore, the main problem with atherogenic muscle inhibition is its subsequent effect on the range of movement. Because the muscles cannot activate fully, a common result is muscle wasting and inequality in strength between the two joints.

At our office, we focus on mitigating the symptoms of atherogenic muscle inhibition by improving joint mobility through targeted adjustments. We focus on improving neurological function between muscle and brain to allow for the proper activation and sustained contraction of muscles surrounding the joint, allowing strength to be retained and rehabilitation to go faster. If you are interested in finding out more about how we can contribute to the rehabilitation of your joint injury, give our office a call to schedule an appointment today.

Wellness Steps

Finding Relief

Often people visit their chiropractor because they are in pain. In this first step, the main goal is to reduce your pain symptoms. This can require frequent visits, typically anywhere from 2-3 times per week to daily visits.

People tend to think they are perfectly healthy if they are not experiencing any pain. In reality, lack of pain is a very poor indicator of health. Most diseases and other conditions  don’t show signs of pain until they in their advanced stages. For example, a cavity doesn’t hurt while it is forming. A cavity causes pain only after it has already formed.

Visiting a chiropractor will cause most of the pain you may be experiencing to disappear. Although the pain may be gone, the underlying condition causing the pain is still there.

Achieving Optimal Health Together

Eliminating pain is the first step in chiropractic care, but is certainly does not stop there. Most chiropractors consider eliminating pain the easiest part of chiropractic. If a patient stops receiving care just because their pain has stopped, the likelihood of the pain causing condition to recur becomes greater. To prevent recurring conditions, it is important to make regularly scheduled trips to your chiropractor to ensure that the pain causing condition stays gone.

Visits to your chiropractor become much less frequent during the correction/restorative phase of care than in the initial phase. In most circumstances, stretches and exercises may be performed at the center or at home to help accelerate the healing process.

It is normal to occasionally experience flare ups of your symptoms, do not let this worry you if it happens. These flare ups are bound to occur until the body has been fully healed. This phase can last anywhere from a few months to a few years depending on the severity of your condition and how long you have been suffering from it.

Maintaining Your Health

Even after your condition has been fully healed, routine visits to your chiropractor will help ensure that the condition does not occur again as well as ensure that your body stays in optimal form. Routinely visiting your chiropractor helps ensure that your musculoskeletal system stays in top form just the same way as routine diet and exercise benefits your body.

Routine chiropractic care ensures that your joints last longer and that you don’t have to experience so much of the pain that many people go through. Live life to its fullest and engage in all of the activities that you love when you make routine chiropractic care part of your lifestyle.

Payment Plans

Insurance

At our office, we accept most insurance plans (including medicare). In addition to cases of personal injury that may have resulted in back pain, neck pain, or headaches, we also accept cases of auto accidents and workers compensation. Because of the wide variety of chiropractic treatment and the numerous insurance plans that exist, we ask that you please call our office before making an appointment to see if your insurance is covered at our office. We are happy to answer any questions you may have as well as provide verification and explanation of our care plans to you for no charge.

No Insurance

We want everyone to be able to receive the benefits provided by chiropractic care. In cases where patients who have little or no chiropractic coverage, we can work with you to arrange a flexible payment that fits your financial needs. Chiropractic care is extremely cost affordable, with many patients paying directly for their visits. Choosing chiropractic care can often be cheaper than alternative methods such as invasive surgery or receiving pain medications.

We will be sure to take our time in ensuring that your family receives the care they need. We can also create customized family plans specific to your family’s needs.

About Us

Dr. Lind Photo

Dr. Gregory Lind, DC is a wellness expert with 34 years of experience in the San Francisco Bay Area. He operates Family Chiropractic & Natural Healing Center in Milpitas, California. His philosophy of integrating body, mind, and spirit allows him to achieve optimal performance, well being, and health with his patients. This approach is restorative and utilizes natural methods to revitalize body systems that are run down and in a state of degeneration. Dr. Lind believes there are two important systems that get little attention in a traditional medical model: the nervous system (communication for the body) and the immune system (keeping the body running cleanly with toxic load reduction). When these systems get overloaded, stress can build up in the body leading to a breakdown in health and ultimately poor performance or disease.

Dr. Lind specializes in alternative medicine and wellness treatments including chiropractic, diet, homeopathy, massage, nutrition, acupressure reflex work, neuro-emotional techniques, mind-body alignment, light therapy, and energy medicine. Conditions such as poor body performance, chronic pain and fatigue, degenerative disease, allergies, infections, hormonal problems, digestive and respiratory disorders, terrain alterations, toxin accumulation, pH imbalances, and energy blockages are being successfully treated.

One of Dr. Lind’s areas of expertise is Energetic Medicine. His analysis and treatment methods are based on the principles of energetic medicine outlined by the work of Dr. Fritz A. Popp, PhD, Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt, MD, and Dr. Y. Omura, MD.

In Germany during the 1970s, Dr. Popp discovered and studied the light emissions of cells of living organisms. He concluded that healthy cells emit a stream of light around them, the wavelength of which is just under the violet range. This light is coherent and well-organized, similar to laser rays (meaning that all the waves are oriented in the same direction and in phase with one another). When the cells of an organism are not functioning properly, the light emission is absent or chaotic—that is, the waves are disorganized, oriented in all different directions, and not in phase with one another, similar to the white light coming from a light bulb. Our cells use this light to communicate with one another and also to program and organize every cell, organ, and body function. Through a technique taught by Dr. Klinghardt, it is possible to assess the quantity and quality of light emitted by any organ or systemic tissue in the body (such as blood), and thereby determine how healthy our organs are. In 1960, Dr. Omura discovered an interesting phenomenon. When a substance is inside the body and a similar substance is also put outside the body in the same location, the autonomic nervous system is stimulated and the body undergoes a deep state of relaxation, which in turn produces a temporary change in muscle tension. Dr. Omura postulated that the body elicits a “resonance phenomenon.” Based on this discovery, Dr. Omura created a new technique to quickly detect the presence of chemicals, toxins, and pathological tissues in the body. All of these diagnostic techniques give quick feedback to the physician where problems may lie, their causes, and what modalities may be therapeutic for patients.
